What would you change about your country

Most of us love their country, Americans more than anybody. If you could change three things, though, what would they be.

My top 3 for Belgium:

1. Split up the country
2. Abolish political unions (socialist/liberal/christian-democratic union) and replace them by independent ones
3. No more kings

Really simple stuff (except for 1), I know, but it levels the playing field for future reforms.

1. I'd make it easier to immigrate and become a citizen here, which should help cut down on illegal immigration.

2. Put a slightly bigger emphasis on Physical Education in elementary and middle schools

Split up the country? Is it too big?

1. cut defense spending by 1/3 or 1/2
2. Invest heavily in infrastructure like high speed rail and fast internet
3. Stick a giant "no fat chicks" bumper sticker on the statue of liberty

Cut military spending in half; heavily restrict campaign financing; and eliminate all house districts and recreate using impartial software based strictly on population count (no gerrymandering).

I'd ban corporate campaign donations, and limit personal donations to some nominal amount in a year, say $2000. I'd eliminate election finance committees, and basically put together a govt fund that each campaign gets $X per cycle. That way money doesn't decide an election, the positions actually do. Also, candidates are not allowed to use a single cent of their own money to run.

There is no reason a good candidate with no $$ can't get his story out on either side. That's just horseshit.

Without gerrymandering, they wouldn't be much of a problem. At the least, they'd need to be a little more moderate.

Yeah, a two party system is pretty fucked up.

Although it's not all bad. Most Europeans don't understand American members of parliament don't really have to vote for their party all the time. If a representative speaks up against his own party up in this bitch, he gets kicked out.
