Has anyone seen this shit? It's stupid. Apparently the word 'bossy' is a 'squasher' now. I word used to put girls down and make them less ambitious.

Fuck that, bossy is the word you use for the asshole kid who always has to get their own way, regardless of what anyone else wanted. My sister was bossy. She told me what to do, she had no right to do that, I wasn't her slave, so I called her bossy. Now Beyonce is acting like I was somehow belittling her? This is getting out of hand. These bossy bitches want to tell everyone else what words they can and can't use, and it's annoying as hell.

sexist pigs, if a man tells people what to do he is a leader or being proactive, but a woman is bossy, typical

I don't think any word should be banned. But there's obviously a lot of sexism taking place, and a lot of it isn't even noticeable by some people.

I haven't been a professional for very long, but you pick up on sexism like this pretty quickly if you pay attention. Both sexes badmouth female leadership in a variety of ways. Sometimes it's calling them bossy, when they're just assertive or show confident leadership. Other times they'll attack how she looks, talks, walks... anything! Men certainly do not face the same kind of criticism.

I've been to a number of workshops and conferences where I've been among a small handful of men. So I'll be there, sitting at a table of women. If a task comes up where a leader is required, 9/10, the women look over to me and expect me to do it. I really enjoy leadership roles (and attention paid to my leadership skills), so I usually move on it. I notice that kind of stuff in a variety of workplaces with diverse staff. Hispanic women seem to be more prone to defer to men over a range of situations. How cultures impact gender roles and one's own feelings of responsibility in their gender role are fascinating.

I haven't seen much support for this. The message could be great if they hadn't presented it in such a ridiculous way.

It is odd that the term "bossy" is only applied to women though right? I think the term exists because men don't like being told what to do by women.

Plus women be shopping.

Until this video I've literally never thought of bossy as anything but a gender neutral term. Its just someone who tells you what to do when they dont have the authority, or they have the authority but are being micromanagey.that's why I thought the video was so stupid. I also think it usually applies to kids.

Basically what Frood said. I use the term more to describe children, and I've never viewed it as an exclusively feminine term.
